You will encounter in Texas Holdem games a sort of flow to the game if you can be bothered to tune into it. When you single table in this way then you can often feel the game flow. It is far easier to sense when a table line up is tight or if certain players are tight of if they are loose when you are only playing a single table. Many players use tracking software to give them valuable game information and this is vital as you multi-table simply because you will not be able to feel a game out when you are playing so many tables at once.
Tracking software is vital in this environment but tracking software also has many weaknesses and these are apparent when you only play single tables. Tracking software tends not to pick up short term anomalies like for instance if a certain player is tilting due to a bad beat or an outdraw. Also your opponents may be hit and run merchants and so you will not have time to get meaningful sample sizes on them and so you will need a fairly good short term assessment of what they are likely doing.
If it has been folded to the cut-off who open raises while you are on the button and this happens twice in a row then you cannot wait until this player has done this numerous times because you may leave the table in that time or your opponent may and there is a chance that you will never see them again or not see them often enough. If you are not technologically minded and do not want to use tracking software then you have two basic options!
The first one is to play at levels that are so low as to mean that the use of a tracker is not as important but this only applies if your default game is good enough. The second option is to play one table to two at the most and feel the table out. This allows you to be able to feel what players are doing. When you sit in any poker game, the players that are in that game will enter it with a pre-conceived way of playing. This will only change due to certain factors but these factors are not common and so their default game will be theirs alone just like yours will be to you.
If a player is essentially playing for rakeback and multi-tabling then you will be able to feel the tightness of their game and if this player is sitting to your left and it has been folded to you then the opportunity to steal the blinds increases and this is even more so if there is more than one player of this type to your left. Feeling the flow of the game is a great way to dramatically increase your bb/100 earn rate as it will be very difficult to top that multi-tabling even when a multi-tabler is probably earning more.
