Poker Pros Understand Fold Equity
A level of online poker aggression that rarely gets discussed
but yet is quite prevalent and a large part of Texas Holdem poker games is fold equity. Fold equity is an advantage that the poker pro creates for himself by betting and raising
rather than just calling
with the intent of making his opponents fold their hands.
Poker Professional Reality
With the huge increase of people playing poker online and in casinos
the thought of becoming a poker professional always enters peoples minds. As appealing as becoming a poker professional might be to you
it is not easy to become a poker pro.
Poker Pros Play Live and Online
Poker played at online poker sites is the way that many professional poker players are playing poker today but it is not the only way. Professional poker players still choose to play at regular land based casinos for their poker action. Some players even do both. Is the game played the same online as it is in local cardrooms?
High stakes poker is the perfect game for poker players who are looking for a particular challenge. High stakes poker entails more money
more time and effort in order for a player to achieve success. Since poker is considered as one of the most sought after casino games in the world
casinos embarked on a new journey to promote poker to more people all over the world. This basic notion has led to the development of high wager poker tournaments. What is a high stakes poker tournament? How do you prepare for it?
Playing in High Stakes Poker Tournaments
Large buy-in tournaments are the venue for skilled poker players. By the name itself
most of the players in high wager poker tournaments are dealing with big amounts and are playing against some of the finest players in the world of poker. Higher wager tournaments are usually a battle among the best poker contenders in the world.
If you want to play high wager poker
you need to have a large bankroll. The minimum buy-in in this kind of tournament is usually $100
000 up to $200
000. Some high-stakes player can afford a buy-in of up to 1 million dollars in cold cash. Although these poker tournaments are very complicated
prizes are very lucrative. So if you want to take a chance
you should prepare before playing in high wager poker tournaments.
Preparing for the High Stakes Poker Tournament
Players
who wish to be part of a high wager poker
should practice the most appropriate poker skills and prepare the necessary resources before the big fight. If you haven’t been to any cash games
then this is the right time to re-assess your strengths and weakness. Ask yourself – “Are you really ready to lose money?” After setting your objective
you need to practice your poker skills. Everybody has the potential so all you need to do is put heart and mind to the game and you’ll definitely be on the right track. Since high wager poker tournaments involves large amount of money
players need to invest more. If you don’t have enough money
then it’s time to participate in small-time games and tournaments in order to build your bankroll for the high wager tourney.
Emotional stability is also an important factor to consider when preparing for the high wager tournament. You need to be patient so you can get through the game. Hand and table selection is also another point to remember. Be observant and concentrate on the game. Don’t be intimidated
just relax and let the chips fall where they may.

In any endeavor
long-term success or failure is based on the existence of a competitive advantage over your opponents. If you enjoy such an advantage
you can weather the turbulence of temporary setbacks — what statisticians refer to as variance
or noise
from an expected result.
If you’re playing at a disadvantage
however
the cards can’t save you. In the long run
you’re going to be a losing poker player. You’ll constantly have to reload your account
and you might end up blaming the poker sites
online cheating
bad beats
your parents
and basically anyone or anything except yourself. Here’s the top six reasons why you LOSE at poker – to become a winning poker player
don’t make these mistakes!
Play weaker cards than your opponents in order to get in the “action” as quickly as possible. Here’s a crowd favorite. If you’re playing poker in order to get some action
you need a more adventurous life! Or at the very least
you need to discount the possibility that you’ll ever be a winning poker player. The object of poker is NOT to see as many flops as possible
but to extract as much value from the cards and situations that do happen to come your way. Often
that means patience. Sometimes
a great deal of patience. If you’re looking for some action
maybe you
need to take up one of the other games offered in the casino?
Pay no attention to position – the same cards can be played from any position for any amount of money. If you think that button is just a plastic disk marking passage to the blinds
you’re costing yourself money. An AK in first position isn’t worth half what an AK in late position is
where you have the option of playing aggressively or calling and seeing what develops. Poker is a game of information
and every round of betting provides additional information as to your opponent’s likely hand. At the very least
it provides a great deal of information as to the hand your opponent is trying to represent
and you can judge for yourself how likely he really holds the hand indicated by his betting. But in any event
it’s always an advantage to see what your opponent will do before acting – you can save a bet if you think you’re behind or earn additional bets if you’re confident that you’re in the lead. You MUST tighten your standards out of position and loosen them in position.
Play passively
calling along with your hand to see what develops. You never know what kind of unlikely draw might get there
and you want your opponent to “show you” what he has. The object of poker again is to maximize return on your good hands and minimize losses on your bad hands. You can’t afford to play sheriff on every hand just because you think there’s a chance
however remote
that another player is bluffing. Mostly
players are NOT bluffing when they show a great deal of interest in a hand. You need a very good read on your opponent to discount the hand he’s representing if he’s playing consistent
aggressive poker from beginning to end. If your opponent’s actions tell a consistent story that he has a big hand
it’s usually wise to believe him unless you’ve seen similar bluffs in the past. And even if you suspect larceny
merely calling is still usually a bad move. It’s much better
to challenge your opponent early in the hand
when the betting is still cheap
then call along through four separate rounds of increasingly-expensive betting. Put your opponent to the test early
and you’ll put more pressure on your opponents at a lower cost than passively calling along to see their hand.
Focus on your own cards
and ignore what your opponent’s past betting patterns
current bets and the table situation in general indicate as to his likely holdings. This is a favorite of the multi-table crowd. It’s true that by playing conservative
lock-down poker
you can often best players at the lowest levels without taking the time to size up your opposition or watch the other hands at the table. You might be able to get by simply playing your own hand
and judging how likely you are to be ahead by gauging your own hand strength relative to the board. But at higher stakes
you need to have some kind of read on your opponents: are they tight or loose? do they tend to overbet the pot with a big hand or merely a draw? how often do they bluff? do they respect your play? If you’re not paying attention to the hands being played at the table (where you’re not involved)
you’ll have no idea of the other players’
betting patterns. You’ll be left playing your own cards
and left guessing what your opponents might be up to. That’s fine for ABC poker against incompetents
but as your opponents’ skill increases
so too will their powers of observation. If you allow them superior information (by not paying attention to the other players’ – and your own – betting patterns) your tunnel vision will cost you dearly.
Pay no attention to bet sizing and maximizing returns on winning hands and minimizing losses on your losers
based on the play of the hand. Professional players spend a great deal of time trying to figure out how they could have “gotten that extra bet” out of a fellow
and analyzing if they could have “bet a smaller amount [on a bluff] and gotten the same information.” They do so because they know that most your winnings at the table will come from maximizing winning hands and minimizing losses on losing poker hands. You will NOT make most of your money from absurd and audacious bluffs
regardless of the table conditions (loose tables will call anyway
and tight competent opponents will look you up at the worst times). You make most of your money on your value betting (and by saving money with tough folds). Just acknowledging that the secret to winning poker play is NOT bluffing will put you on the fast track to being a consistent
winning player.
Pay no attention to game selection. Here’s an obscure one
and in real-life it’s difficult to actually execute. In real-life cash or tournament play
it can often be difficult to choose the ideal table to maximize your winnings. Online poker sites
however
give you the statistics on flops seen. All else being equal
you want to go to a loose table
where lots of players are paying to see the flop. This can make for some initially wild action
but the tight
aggressive player can capitalize on this to get paid off on his top hands. You can also patiently wait to pick your spots. Most of your profit at the poker table will come from one or two loose
weak players
and you want to be seated at the table that allows you to exploit such players. As Jesus showed
it only takes a few fish to feed an army.

Online poker tournaments were the primary factor that influenced the boom of the online poker game industry.
Online poker tournaments are very fast-paced and they are very fun to play in. A single table in standard online poker tournaments is similar to a microcosm within a big multi-table tournament.
Players or gamblers usually play very tight in the first few tables of online poker tournaments. At least nine to ten players will play in a single poker table. The early stages of online poker tournaments will be seen as very aggressive.
– Strategies In Online Poker Tournaments
When playing in online poker tournaments
it is important to know a few tested strategies of playing. Regardless if a player wants to win the top prize or just aim to be able to stay long enough in the game to get a reward money
a player must have a number of strategies up his sleeve.
1. Strategy One
In online poker tournaments
the opponents of a poker player or gambler will tend to be aggressive and wild during the first stages of the poker game. The opponents will not be comfortable without having an early start in the game
they will take the chance of risking everything they had just to have an early advantage.
This is the chance that a wise poker player needs to be able to grab the edge from the aggressive poker players. If a poker player is holding a monster card
he can quickly turn the tables around and surprise his opponents.
2. Strategy Two
A poker player or gambler can prefer to just wait a little while and avoid confrontation with his opponents. He might get rewarded if he stays out of the firing lane during the early stages. In his style
survival is the most important thing to do and not use a gung-ho attitude.
This particular player would be patient and wait for some of his opponents to be knocked out before taking pouncing on the other opponents. By doing this
he will also be able to observe and monitor the moves of his opponents. Observing their style will do a great deal in forming the proper strategy to win.
In doing so
the player does not need to win every pot that comes his way
instead he just needs to win enough pots to stay in the game.
3. Strategies During The Early Rounds
A player can usually choose between playing aggressively or playing patiently during the early rounds of online poker tournaments. A player can opt to play conservatively when he is able to analyze the risk per reward ratio.
Usually
in the early stages of online poker tournaments
players will not gain so many by bluffing or by playing mediocre
blinds start off pretty meager and not very high.
A winner during the early rounds of online poker tournaments will not be able to gain much money if ever he wins the pot. Sometimes when a player commits an error along the way
he might end up spending too much than what he earns.
The basic strategy in online poker tournaments during the early rounds is to move in slow and play patiently. Players only need to wait until the poker table has only a number of opponents left before eventually revealing his aggressive side. By this time
the game play is midway and the pot is getting higher as the game is played.
4. A player can also strategize in making a continuation bet This kind of bet is made after the flop in online poker tournaments. After a player has raised the hand before the flop in online poker tournaments
he has already taken control of the hand. If he took control of the hand together with a position
his opponents will usually check to the player.
At this part of the game
you place a bet from half the size of the pot to about full size of the pot. Since the player already placed himself to raise a pre-flop
his opponents
will tend to put him on a big hand which is probably a big pocket pair.
Usually the opponents will throw their hands away because of the prospect of facing the big bet that you placed earlier.

PayPal is by far the most popular online payment processor in existence
even taking into account the fact that the vast majority of online gambling websites do not allow transactions with PayPal. This is a remarkable achievement considering the general level of market share taken up by online payments done to and from online gambling websites and it is one worth noting because the average person new to online gaming is more likely to have a PayPal account than an account with any other online payment processor. If this describes you
there is good news and bad news. The bad news is that there are not a whole lot of online poker websites that accept PayPal
while the good news is that there are a couple of good ones that do.
Reasons for Refusal for many people
understanding why a specific thing is refused helps them mentally to seek another option. There is one main reason as to why most online poker rooms reject the use of PayPal and it primarily has to do with the idea of security. PayPal was created to serve as a payment processor for eBay initially and from those humble beginnings has grown into a multi-purpose payment processor for many different things. And the large user base has led to concerns with security and this is precisely why PayPal poker websites are few and far between. A PayPal poker deposit is one that is not necessarily secure in the opinion of most online poker websites. The poker websites that use it have proven this to be false
but the fact remains that this is what many online poker websites believe.
Gambling Websites Which Accepts PayPal Deposits While this opinion of an online poker PayPal deposit is common throughout the online poker world
there are two websites that have always accepted PayPal as a payment option. These two websites continue to remain PayPal poker websites and are expected to remain as such for the foreseeable future.
The first of these websites is Betfair Poker
which is affiliated with the Betfair Network of websites. This is a network of websites that has always looked kindly on the use of the PayPal deposit method and it is also one that is reasonably good in terms of a poker website because of the amount of cross traffic the poker website gets from the other parts of the Betfair Network. When using Betfair for playing online poker
PayPal is always an acceptable option for depositing and withdrawing money from your real money Betfair Poker account.
The second online poker website that accepts PayPal is Ladbrokes Poker
another website that is part of a larger network that includes an online casino amongst other things. Ladbrokes Poker is based in the same geographical region of the world as Betfair as well
so it is quite possible that these two websites accepting poker PayPal deposit is not a mere coincidence. While not as good as Betfair in terms of soft competition
Ladbrokes Poker is still a decent place for a newcomer to online poker to cut their teeth
especially if they happen to prefer the PayPal payment method.
